Common Mistakes Made in ECommerce

by The DrimTeam

When creating an online store, it’s not always easy to get started. We reveal 7 common mistakes that people make when building an eCommerce site.

1. The checkout is complex

Completing an online transaction should be simple, fast and completely frictionless. Do not overload the payment process with too many forms, requirements or questions. You don’t want to end up like this...

2. UI and UX are not optimised

A good online store should make everything easy for users through simple navigation. Put yourself in the mind of your customers in order to optimise their experience; is the site intuitive to use? Good user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) are crucial in effective web design.

3. There are too many filters

Whatever sector your industry lies in, your selection of filters should be minimal and simple. The user will find it easier to find the product of their dreams if you make the right keywords available. Try and compare it to a real shop - which different sections and aisles would be the most relevant?

4. The images are bad

Buying a product online is not as easy as doing so in person, where consumers can touch, see and test the product closely. So, make sure your photos are good quality and that they represent the product perfectly . Your users must have the ability to zoom and see the product from different angles in order to get a clear idea of what they’re buying.

5. Text is uninspiring

Great titles and descriptions will bring extra value to your products, giving them real selling power. Make sure you hire copywriters who know what they’re doing.

6. A lack of product suggestions

We can’t stress enough how important it is to suggest recently viewed items, bestsellers, seasonal products or products of a similar nature to your customers. Your online store should be designed to understand the behaviour of your users and offer them products related to this. This technical detail can make a huge difference to your sales!

7. No promotions or special offers

Regular promotions on your eCommerce site will attract new customers, as well as treating your current ones. The result? More sales! Give away gift certificates, money off vouchers and throw last minute sales. Customers are always on the lookout for bargains, so you must find ways to grab (and hold) their attention.

If you would rather generate conversions than push customers away, we can help you swerve all these common eCommerce mistakes and create the online store of your dreams...
