Six Rules of Great Web Design

by The DrimTeam

You should never overlook User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) when considering web design. If you never gave them too much thought before, you could have been missing a trick (or six)...

1. Have a balance between innovation and convention

A website should look unique and stand out from competitors, but it should also be usable. Impressing your users is great, but frustrating them is a big mistake.

2. Design with style

Your site should be recognisable, memorable and modern. First impressions are important when it comes to business, so having a quality design is absolutely crucial. The design should also match existing branding, keeping things neat, clear and well-balanced.

3. Always have content on the brain

A great design is pointless if the content is just lost on the page. Your site should be well structured and intuitive to navigate.

4. Don’t underestimate typography

Brand consistency is so important - so make sure your fonts match up. Also, choose them carefully.

If you’re a serious business, you should never use Comic Sans. If you’re not a serious business...you should also never use Comic Sans.

5. Think of your customer

User-centric design is key. The site should be simple to use, and the same style should be maintained throughout. Think of what your customers will react well to, and give it to them.

6. Optimise constantly

As your brand grows, so will your website. Technical performance reviews, updates and research should be occurring all the time to make sure that things are optimised. Work with an agency that communicate themselves well and know their stuff. Their expertise is invaluable.

If we’re honest, this list goes on. We know our stuff when it comes to UI and UX, and what’s more...we love putting our expertise into practice. Don’t hesitate to ask us for more information, and how all of the above could be put into place for your business.
