Edinburgh Handball Tournament
The first international Handball Tournament to be hosted in Scotland’s capital is fast approaching, and we are proud to be sponsors of the Edinburgh Handball Club. There will be 12 games overall, with over 100 players taking part.
Edinburgh will be playing against Glasgow, Dundee, Newcastle and Lughnasa. The team previously defeated the Dundee and Newcastle teams in a tournament in England, so are hoping that history will repeat itself! With Edinburgh’s Male and Female teams finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Scottish Cup, we have a feeling that this won’t be an issue.
Management of the Edinburgh Handball Club explained:
“The purpose of this tournament is twofold: Firstly promoting handball in Scotland. In this area, we hope to be able to increase the practice of the sport in clubs and schools. Secondly, we also want to encourage friendly exchanges between teams, both from Scotland and further afield.”
Other major sponsors of the club include Sainsbury’s, Tunnock’s and Nairn’s. However, the growing popularity of this sport is giving great visibility to local businesses, who are also proud to sponsor the club. These include Annan Solicitors & Estate Agents, Clotide Chereau (the Osteopath) and The Constitution (a bar and venue in Leith). Incidentally, there will be a celebration at The Constitution bar after the tournament from 6pm til late, so feel free to come along!
The tournament will take place between 10am and 5.30pm on Saturday the 28th of September at Meadowbank Sports Centre, and the best part? It’s free to spectators! We hope to see you there.
